Vlaardingen plumber allowed to enter house again after four months

Vlaardingen plumber Ron van Uffelen will be allowed to return to his home on Gretha Hofstralaan from Tuesday 2 July. Mayor Bert Wijbenga has decided not to extend the closure of his home. The other safety measures in the neighbourhood will remain in force.

According to a municipal spokesperson, letters and text messages are being distributed in the neighborhood about the reopening of the home on Monday afternoon, regional broadcaster Twee reports. The home of Van Uffelen and his family was closed for four months by order of the municipality for safety reasons. Several attacks with explosives were committed on the home and premises of the plumber.

Safety risk area

The neighbourhood remains a safety risk area, which means that the police will carry out extra surveillance and everyone in the streets around the home may search. Camera surveillance will also remain in the street, including so-called ANPR cameras, which can recognise license plates.

Summary proceedings

In early June, Van Uffelen filed a summary proceeding against the municipality of Vlaardingen to open his home earlier than the planned end date on July 2. The administrative judge in Rotterdam decided in summary proceedings on June 19 that the plumber and his family cannot return to their home for the time being.

On Monday, Mayor Wijbenga decided that the closure would not be extended and that Van Uffelen would be allowed to return to his home on Tuesday.
