Ronald de Boer praises Orkun Kökcü. The former international expects the 22-year-old midfielder to generate a considerable amount for Feyenoord.

Kökcü is now also a fixed value in Turkey, which took on Armenia (1-2 win) and Croatia (0-2 loss) this international period. “He plays the same role as at Feyenoord: taking control in midfield, always looking ahead, controlling the ball,” De Boer starts at Ziggo Sport. “He always tries to play ahead. He gets along very well, especially with Hakan Calhanoglu from Internazionale.”

The biggest gain, however, is Kökcü’s physical development, says De Boer. “The physical, he has seen the light. You have to make sure you have a sports body. He has that now. He always had a good shot,” said the former Ajax player, referring to his goal against Armenia. “You can see from everything that the boy is so comfortable in his own skin. He looks incredibly fit. That is why he is having such a great season, because he can of course play great football. If you can do that for another ninety minutes and can even take away balls by sprinting back forty meters.”

De Boer thinks that Kökcü is ready for a new adventure. “He is certainly leaving Feyenoord for a very large amount. I think he is also difficult to keep. They are doing great in the Eredivisie and in Europe, but he is also doing it at this level,” De Boer refers to the European Championship qualification. The analyst comes up with a striking suggestion. “He is difficult to stop. I think he dreams of clubs like Galatasaray or Fenerbahçe.”

Kökcü was still in the picture at Benfica in January. The Portuguese top club saw him as the successor to Enzo Fernández. However, the Argentinian made the switch to Chelsea too late, so leaving was no longer an option for Feyenoord and his captain.
