Ralf Schumacher regards Newey as the first domino: 'Red Bull is falling apart'

Former driver Ralf Schumacher thinks that the departure of Adrian Newey is the first domino that will lead to the breakup of Red Bull Racing. The German thinks that it will also have consequences for Max Verstappen and that ultimately there will be nothing left of Red Bull. Schumacher points to Christian Horner as the culprit.

Schumacher has also previously indicated that the 51-year-old team boss has caused the unrest within the team. The case involving Horner and the Red Bull employee has been going on since February, and it is still not clear whether an end has been put to the case or not. The power struggle going on behind the scenes is certainly killing the Austrian racing team, thinks Michael Schumacher’s brother. During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix there were rumors that Helmut Marko would be suspended, now there are rumors that Newey would leave. ‘Adrian Newey needs harmony, he needs a good atmosphere. Red Bull is falling apart,” the German told Sky Sports.

In his opinion, Horner wants to remain on the Red Bull throne with all his might. ‘The only one responsible for Red Bull’s collapse is Horner. I don’t think Newey’s departure will be his last problem,” says the former driver. The topic of the power struggle has been ubiquitous at Red Bull for quite some time. Lately there has been more talk about what happens off the track than on the track. ‘We still remember what happened last year when Newey was ill. There were immediate problems, something was wrong with Red Bull immediately. Verstappen then had difficulties,” says Schumacher. “Verstappen is also already thinking about leaving the team, despite his contract until 2028,” said the German.

Schumacher gives Red Bull two more years

If Newey and Verstappen do indeed leave, Schumacher sees a gloomy outlook for Red Bull. Former team manager and F1 journalist Peter Windsor also shares that opinion. The Briton said that he did not expect Red Bull to be able to win any more titles without those two big names. ‘I give Red Bull two more years, and if Horner stays, the team will sink and become very mediocre. I’m pretty sure of that,” concludes Schumacher.
