Amsterdam – The police arrested a 16-year-old suspect on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in the investigation into two explosions in Amsterdam-Noord. Police investigation shows that the explosions were probably committed due to the theft of a piece of clothing. The Amsterdam police find it worrying that these social conflicts are fought with life-threatening explosives.

The explosions took place at the end of March on Slootdorpstraat in Amsterdam-Noord. The police immediately launched a major investigation, which led to the arrest of the 16-year-old boy. The explosions are probably the result of a theft of a piece of clothing. The boy is currently in custody and is being interrogated. The public prosecutor will later determine whether he should be brought before the examining magistrate.

Social conflicts
The explosions have a major impact on everyone’s sense of security. The backgrounds of explosions can be diverse. Although often believed to be linked to criminal conflicts, police also note that several explosions stem from social conflicts. It appears that the perpetrators feel no restraint whatsoever in using explosives to achieve their goals.
