Real cyber stuff

During the hackathon, real cyber cases will be worked on, which were completely anonymized prior to the event. This way, participants without criminal powers can also work on the cases. The cases concern digital crime that the police see most often, such as phishing, friend-in-need fraud and bank helpdesk fraud. The goal of this unique collaboration is to search for leads, so that these cases can actually be solved at a later time.

Huge shift to digital crime

Bryan Sewberath Misser, one of the organizers of the hackathon, says: “During the corona period, we saw a huge shift from traditional to digital crime. Developments in the field of cybercrime are moving very fast. We cannot combat this with criminal law alone, the private sector also has an important responsibility in this. Fortunately, this is happening more and more, for example, banks that immediately contact us when they see that large amounts are suddenly withdrawn from an account. We can also make good use of the knowledge of private parties such as the police, because they naturally look at certain problems differently than we do. During this hackathon, we try to bundle this knowledge.”
