Documentary “Beautiful girls don't poop” breaks taboos

The Stomach Liver Intestine Foundation (MLDS) launches the 3-part documentary series “Pretty girls don’t poop”. Documentary maker Sanne Savelsbergh follows 7 young women with intestinal problems, such as having a stoma, Crohn’s disease or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The online series aims to break the taboo for young women on everything related to stool.

Taboo bigger for women

Sanne Savelsbergh herself has IBS, which prompted her to make this docu-series. Going to the toilet is one of the most normal human things, but it is still a taboo. This taboo seems even greater for women than for men, especially if they also have an intestinal disorder. In this docu-series, 7 brave women show their vulnerability, which can support others with intestinal disorders and break taboos.

IBS Week

The 3-part series can be viewed for free on the MLDS website. Watch the trailer here. The premiere was during Irritable Bowel Syndrome Week, a week in which worldwide attention is drawn to this condition.
