Police make seventh arrest after Purmerend shooting incident

Purmerend – The police have arrested a new suspect in the investigation into the shooting incident at the train station in Purmerend. This concerns an 18-year-old man without a permanent place of residence. The suspect was arrested on Monday, April 29, in Hoogeveen, where he was visiting at the time. The man is in limitations. This means that he may only have contact with his lawyer. He was also brought before the examining magistrate today. During the arraignment it was decided that the man would remain in custody longer. This is the seventh arrest in this investigation.

On Monday evening, February 12, the police received a report of a shooting incident around 8:05 p.m. A 19-year-old man from Purmerend died. Another man, a 19-year-old man from the municipality of Medemblik, was seriously injured. See previous reporting here.

The police suspect that a conflict between young people in Purmerend may have caused the shooting incident. This is being further investigated.
