Yves Berendse wants to have children

Yves Berendse’s star is rising. He played AFAS Live at the end of last year and has now already sold out half of his upcoming theater shows. The friendly Yves welcomes us in party café Tante Roosje on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. It is his favorite pub and the owner is Kimberley Kruiter, the girlfriend of Yves’ comrade Tino Martin. We recently spoke to Yves about his career, but also about being thirty, becoming more sentimental and wanting to have children. “We of course hope that we will be granted that sooner or later.”

Yes, you are thirty years old, a good age. What are you thinking about?

“To name just one thing: my girlfriend and I both want to have children. Those are things that concern me. We hope, of course, that we will be granted that sooner or later. I also consciously deal with people differently. For example with my parents. I think most people recognize that you can sometimes react slightly irritated to your parents, such as: ‘yes-ha mom’ and: ‘no-hey dad’. I’m more careful about that these days. My father is really my friend and often accompanies me. My mother is especially very protective and sometimes worries about things. Suppose she knows that I am going out for the evening, then I will receive a text late at night: ‘Are you home yet?’. It’s actually just nice that someone thinks so well about you. Four years ago I might have thought about such a text: leave me alone for a while, mom. But as you get older, you start to think about it differently. Of course it is only well intentioned. I think those parental concerns will resonate even more with me once I have become a father myself.”
