YouTube on television will focus more on comments

YouTube is taking a new step closer to social media: it will now give a more important place to comments on its television app. If you tap on the title of a video, you will see the comments on the right and the description of the video. According to YouTube, these facets are just as important, if not more so, than the video itself.

The biggest change for readers is that they will now see comments on the side next to the video, which will appear a bit smaller if they choose to do so. YouTube has listened to the community, it says, because it has adjusted the design so that people can watch the video and read the comments at the same time. This would be a much-requested option, the company says.

New design YouTube TV

The video platform is increasingly focusing on interactivity, while it continues to revolve around the video. In principle, the video is still in the center as you are used to, but other elements change a bit more. The play button and the other buttons to ‘control’ the video remain the same, because simplicity is the key, YouTube says. It even considers simplification more important than adding all kinds of new options that do not have much impact.

The change is partly because, according to YouTube, people lean less when watching television. More often than not, we crawl to the edge of our seat to completely immerse ourselves in the content -or the responses-. As a result, it has decided to make those responses more important. The new design will be rolled out in the coming weeks and only applies to YouTube TV.
