'XXL surprise from Amsterdam: Ajax will strengthen itself with Sosa'

Big surprise: Ajax will strengthen itself with Borna Sosa. Fabrizio Romano reports that, including ‘here we go’. The left back of VfB Stuttgart is already on his way to Amsterdam.

Ajax and Stuttgart have reached an oral agreement on the transfer of Sosa, who will undergo his medical examination on Friday afternoon or evening and then sign a multi-year contract. It is not yet known how much the Amsterdammers pay for the Croat.

Sosa comes – again – from the network of technical director Sven Mislintat, who previously worked at Stuttgart. The Croatia international will meet two compatriots in Amsterdam: Josip Sutalo and Jakov Medic. With Gaston Avila, Ajax already paid 12.5 million euros for a new left back this summer.

Sosa is a 25-year-old left back, who was taken from Dinamo Zagreb by Stuttgart since 2018. His contract in Germany ran for another two years. Earlier this summer, he seemed to be on his way to Seville, but that transfer fell through. Nottingham Forest was also in the market.

After Branco van den Boomen, Benjamin Tahirovic, Diant Ramaj, Carlos Forbs, Jakov Medic, Anton Gaaei, Chuba Akpom, Josip Sutalo, Gaston Avila, Georges Mikautadze and Sivert Mannsverk, Sosa will be the twelfth player to bring Mislintat to Ajax this summer.

It is unknown what will happen now with Owen Wijndal and Anass Salah-Eddine. The two left backs got a chance from Maurice Steijn in the first weeks of the season, but could not convince for a moment. Before the arrival of Sosa, they were already nominated for a departure.
