“Xavi Simons also runs into frustrations, you have lost them I’m afraid”

Björn van der Doelen fears that Xavi Simons is in his last months at PSV. The nineteen-year-old top talent could well choose eggs for his money if the people of Eindhoven do not qualify for the Champions League.

Van der Doelen would not blame Simons if PSV did not finish in the top two in the Eredivisie. “That is completely understandable. If you see what phase he is in and how he is developing, then such a boy just wants to continue,” says the former midfielder in the extra edition of the Skiete Willy Podcast of Voetbal International. “He has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s about his career and his development. He can make his own choice.”

“The next eight games will be very important in that”, predicts Van der Doelen. “If it is played well, results are achieved and you finish second, that will really play a role. And rightly so. If it turns out to be a fiasco, you cannot expect such a boy to say: I will just stay put, because I have I’m doing well here, which is nice, but he has the potential for the world top and it would be a shame if he didn’t.”

Van der Doelen seems to have a hard head that Simons, who was in the starting line-up with the Dutch on Friday, can still be admired in the Philips Stadium next season. “You will lose Simons next year, I’m afraid,” he said in the regular broadcast. “He also runs into frustrations and that is very understandable. That would be an eternal shame, because he makes the difference, doesn’t he?”
