The social medium X will soon also collect biometric data. That’s in it an update of the privacy policy that takes effect on September 29. It also wants to collect information about users’ professions in order to place targeted advertisements.
It is unclear whether this concerns biometric data of all users. The American news site Bloomberg heard from X that this adjustment is intended for users of a premium subscription, but that is not reflected in the update.
It is also unclear which biometric data is involved. It is obvious that facial features fall under this. Bloomberg learned from X that premium subscription users will be given the option to upload their ID and a photo. “This also helps X fight identity forgery and make the platform more secure,” X told Bloomberg.
The company also wants to collect information about education, employment history and the search behavior of users for a new job. It can then keep them informed of vacancies and put employers in contact with candidates.
