The World Car of the Year 2024 election is coming up again. This traditionally starts with the announcement of the Top 10 and Top 5 finalists in six different categories of the World Car Awards. The countdown to the announcement of the winners ends on March 27, 2024. On that day, the winners will be announced live during the New York International Auto Show.
A jury of more than 100 international automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the finalists through a secret ballot.
The top ten finalists are:
The 2024 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) winner will be selected from the following top ten finalists, chosen from an initial list of 38 contenders:
- Ford Bronco
- Hyundai Kona / Kona Electric
- Hyundai Santa Fe
- Kia EV9
- Mazda CX-90
- Subaru Crosstrek
- Toyota Prius
- Volkswagen ID.7
- Volvo EX30
This year, 32 vehicles participated in the World Electric Vehicle category. The top five finalists are:
- BMW i5
- Kia EV9
- Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV
- Volkswagen ID.7
- Volvo EX30
There were 13 cars in the World Luxury Car 2024 category. The top five finalists are:
- BMW 5 Series / i5
- Lexus LM
- Mercedes-Benz CLE
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class
- Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV
The 2024 World Performance Car had 17 cars in the competition. The top five finalists are:
- BMW M2
- BMW XM
- Ferrari Purosangue
- Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
- Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid
There were seven candidates in the World Urban Car 2024 category. The five finalists are:
- Abarth 500th
- BYD Dolphin
- Lexus LBX
- Suzuki Frontx
- Volvo EX30
All vehicles participating in the above five categories are eligible for the World Car of the Year award.
World Car Design of the Year award
A design panel made up of six highly respected global design experts were asked to first assess each candidate, and then create a shortlist of recommendations for the judges’ final vote. The five finalists chosen by the design panel for the jury winners vote in February are:
- Ford Bronco
- Ferrari Purosangue
- Toyota Prius
- Volvo EX30
- Zeekr
The excitement will undoubtedly increase again when the number of finalists is reduced to a top three list per category. This new list will be announced during the Geneva International Motor Show on Monday February 26, 2024.
Winners in all six categories will be announced during a live awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show, as noted above.
