Feyenoord deserves the national title, says King Willem-Alexander. The royal family is in Rotterdam on King’s Day, where Willem-Alexander is asked by NOS about his recent revelation.
The king recently said that he is a supporter of Ajax. “I have to be neutral in all areas of my life, except football,” he said recently. The NOS asks him whether that statement was so smart. “If I say it again in six months, it will be on the front page again,” laughs Willem-Alexander. “I don’t want to jinx anything, so I’m not going to congratulate anyone yet, but there is only one team that deserves to become Dutch champion this year.”
“And if you are Dutch champion, you are also my champion,” concludes the king. Queen Máxima does not hide her club preference on King’s Day either. Máxima wore a Feyenoord scarf in Rotterdam at the start of the day.
Feyenoord can become champion next Sunday. If PSV loses points against Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday, May 6, the team from Rotterdam will be national champions a day later with a win over Excelsior.
