When Karin Bloemen (62) turned thirty, she thought she would have retired long ago at sixty, as we read in an interview with ‘Nouveau’. After all: then she would have done everything in the profession, eaten that whole rack empty, she suspected. Moreover: who is waiting for an old woman on stage?
At the age of sixty-two, the cabaret artist, singer, writer and deserving hobby hacker has completely different ideas about stopping work. Performing does not cost any strength, but on the contrary produces extra energy. Karin: “I am now, after all these years, relaxed. I no longer feel that urge to prove that gripped me as an insecure twenty-three-year-old. Am I nice? Am i doing it right? Oh my god, does everyone see me? Now I know: this does work, that’s not pretty. I enjoy beautiful music. That brings me freedom on stage, which I pass on to the audience.”
