Verstappen top favorite for pole, what can Ferrari do?
After the free practice sessions on Friday, it can be clearly stated that Max Verstappen is the towering favorite for pole position on the Jeddah Street Circuit. The Red Bull Racing driver, who had just recovered from a stomach flu, impressed by finishing both sessions as the fastest. Teammate Sergio Pérez was also good twice, so a full front row start for the Austrian formation is very possible.
The biggest challenger seems to be Fernando Alonso for the time being, although the Spaniard does not see it that way. The Aston Martin driver tempers expectations and says he is mainly focusing on a place in Q3. If Alonso can’t give Red Bull a hard time in qualifying, who can? Ferrari maybe? The Italian racing stable does not seem to have shown the back of the tongue on Friday, so they may be able to take an important step. Alpine could also surprise, but for the competition it seems to be mainly about a place behind Verstappen.
