Minister Franc Weerwind (Legal Protection) regrets that he acted wrongly as mayor of the municipality of Almere when he used his official car for private trips.

He says this on his LinkedIn page after reporting from Omroep Flevoland. He reports that, according to acting mayor Ank Bijleveld, Weerwind has used his official car for private rides for five years, while that is not allowed.
Weerwind says that he ‘periodically’ submitted overviews to the municipality about how his official car was used for private trips or additional functions and that he thought he had acted in accordance with the rules. “I deeply regret that it now appears that was not the case.” Weerwind says it has been informed of this by the municipality of Almere. He says he is “fully willing” to cooperate in “rectifying this omission.”
Non-official ancillary positions
The journeys took place from 2017 to 2021. In those years, the official car was also used for work that Weerwind carried out for other organizations such as the Fietsersbond and Stichting Het Vergeten Kind. The official car may also not be used for so-called non-official ancillary positions.
The Annual Integrity Report of the Municipal Executive of Almere states that from 2017 to 2021, ‘one director used the official car for private purposes and for non-official ancillary functions, in violation of the Regulations for Service Transport’. According to Omroep Flevoland, Bijleveld has said that this is about Weerwind.
