Nijkerk – A 29-year-old man from Nijkerk was arrested on Saturday morning and warning shots were fired by the police. Earlier that night, the confused-looking driver was given a stop sign due to unusual driving behavior in the Hilversum area, but did not comply. A chase ensued, with the driver ignoring multiple stop signs. Colleagues from the Infrastructure Department of the National Unit joined the pursuit.
During the chase, in which the driver committed several traffic violations, the officers at Nijkerk decide to intervene by tapping the vehicle in a safe place. An attempt is made to force the car to stop. That works, but the driver gets out of the car and crosses the A28. The police then fired warning shots, after which the suspect could be arrested. During the arrest, both the suspect’s car and the police car were damaged.
The Infrastructure Department of the National Unit is conducting further investigations.
