Verstappen will rule in 2023 according to Alonso: ‘Does it better than the rest’

Fernando Alonso has been clear about Max Verstappen’s performance in the 2023 season, which has seen the Dutchman rack up an impressive run of victories. Alonso acknowledges that Verstappen is currently superior to all other drivers on the grid. The experienced Spaniard emphasizes Verstappen’s exceptional skills and praises his flawless performance.

In a recent interview with El Larguero, Alonso shared his thoughts on Verstappen’s dominance in the current season. He noted that Verstappen has won the past 10 races in a variety of conditions, including rain races, races with a lot of tire degradation and races with red flags. It is remarkable that Verstappen did not make any mistakes during any of these races. “I don’t know if I would lead the World Cup with a Red Bull, I don’t really think about it either. What is clear to me, however, is that Verstappen is doing better than the rest. You have to accept that,” Alonso said.

He points out that Verstappen has taken ten consecutive victories, a feat that is not easy to achieve. Alonso praises the collaboration between Verstappen and the Red Bull Racing team and emphasizes that the combination of Verstappen’s skills and the Red Bull car makes all the difference. “Red Bull certainly has a good car, but the Verstappen-Red Bull combination is extraordinary,” added Alonso.

More equality between teams

The new regulations in Formula 1 have also contributed to an exciting season in 2023. Alonso notes that the cars are now easier to follow than before, with less turbulence and less dirty air. The grid is more competitive than ever before, meaning the battle at the front is intense. The equality between the teams is clearly visible, even to the back of the field. “In four tenths of a second, sixteen cars separate from each other. But it is remarkable that in the last 25 races, 24 have been won by Red Bull. This may not have been the original plan, but it shows that they are the best in every way. They have the fastest driver, the best pit stops, the best starts and the best strategies,” Alonso concluded.
