Vacuum cleaner or stick vacuum cleaner: which suits you better?

Your vacuum cleaner has broken down, or maybe you’ve just been dreaming about a stick vacuum cleaner for a while. Is it really that much better than the good old ‘dog’ vacuum cleaner that you drag behind you? We put the two types of vacuum cleaners side by side.

It is often called a ‘normal’ vacuum cleaner, but it is actually a canister vacuum cleaner. The stick vacuum cleaner is the stem of a flower stem, and not from the English word for steel (which is sometimes confused, partly because this type of vacuum cleaner has a somewhat ‘steel’ appearance, a long, hard tube). The purpose of both is the same: to help you ensure dust and spills are removed from your home. They are also both available in variants with and without a bag, although the bag is more normal on canister vacuum cleaners and in stick vacuum cleaners we mainly see types with just a container instead of a bag. But beyond that there are many differences between the two.

Store

You often hang a stick vacuum cleaner on the wall so that it is immediately plugged into the charger. A canister vacuum cleaner is very different in that respect, because it takes up a bit more space. The stick vacuum cleaner has an advantage in this area. Please note that if your stick vacuum cleaner is hanging in a somewhat prominent position, do not leave dust in the device for too long, as it will not look very appetizing. The Dyson Cyclone is an example of a very easy to store vacuum cleaner, which can also hang nicely. Especially with one discount code for Dyson it might be worth taking a look at that.

Agility

Up the stairs, behind a door: it is something you cannot do with a canister vacuum cleaner, because you keep getting tangled in the wire or have to keep holding the somewhat cumbersome thing (step after step). A canister vacuum cleaner is a lot bulkier and makes it less easy for you to move and get to all kinds of places. With a canister vacuum cleaner you also have to occasionally pull the plug out of the socket and put it in another socket, which slows down the job somewhat compared to a stick variant.

Suction power

Now it sounds like the canister vacuum cleaner is a little less worth the effort, but that is not entirely correct. Because the canister vacuum cleaner is plugged in, it can often provide higher suction power. This way you don’t have to go over the same section twice and that actually saves time. It can gain more power and therefore use it to master even more stubborn dust.

Battery life

And then of course there is the battery life: you don’t have to worry about that with a regular vacuum cleaner: it doesn’t even have a battery, because you simply plug it into the wall with the cord. With a stick vacuum cleaner, the battery may be empty, just when you want to give that final touch to your home before guests arrive. These are annoying situations that you do not have to deal with with an old-fashioned vacuum cleaner.

You could of course also choose to do nothing yourself and let the robot vacuum cleaner do the dirty work.
