The court in Willemstad on Curaçao sentenced two suspects in the murder of the Tilburg/Curaçao rapper Boechi (30) to 22 years and almost 20 years in prison on Friday. Last month, the Public Prosecution Service demanded 22 and 19 years in prison against Chris Z. (24) and Churendi C. (44), respectively.
Shooter Chris Z. gets 22 years in prison and co-suspect Churendi C. 19 years and 11 months. He was originally sentenced to 20 years in prison, but the judge took off a month because mistakes were made during his transfer to the Netherlands.
Ruchendell Windster, alias rapper Boechi, was shot dead at a food stall in Willemstad, the capital of Curaçao, on the night of December 9, 2022. He was hit by several bullets as he walked towards his car. Boechi lived in Tilburg, but was in Curaçao for performances and had just done a show that night.
Nothing has been revealed about a motive for the murder. According to sources, it was about a settlement in the drug environment, but other sources said that it was about an argument that got out of hand or the theft of Boechi’s expensive necklace.
Two suspects were arrested in April this year. On April 8, Curaçaoan Churendi C. was arrested in Vlaardingen at the request of the Curaçao Public Prosecution Service. He is said to have driven the getaway car and was stuck on Bonaire for his own safety. At the end of April, the alleged shooter was arrested in Curaçao: Chris Z., also a family member of the victim. Z. is known to the police and the judiciary.
Boechi was an emerging artist who had been releasing music since 2020. He had many fans in the Antillean music scene. His best-known songs are Hode Nan and Moru Bondia.
