Two shootings took place in Groningen on Thursday. One person was injured in a shooting on Damsterdiep in the afternoon. As far as we know, no one was injured in the other shooting incident just before midnight at the Akerkhof.
The police responded around 3:50 PM to a report of a shooting incident on the Damsterdiep in Groningen. No victim was found at the scene. Moments later, a victim reported to the hospital with injuries. The police say they take into account that this 23-year-old man from Hoogezand was involved in the shooting.
The police are investigating the case. What exactly happened and what led to the incident is part of the police investigation. No arrest has been made so far.
It was also restless in Groningen on Thursday evening, this time in the city center. Around 11:30 PM there was a report that a firearm had been threatened at the Grote Markt. When officers arrived, they found four men believed to be connected to the incident. The police suspected that one of them had a weapon. When officers wanted to arrest the four men, they did not follow instructions, after which the police fired a warning shot.
The four were subsequently arrested and taken to the police station for questioning. It turned out that the men were not suspects and did not have any firearms with them. They were heard as witnesses and then sent away.
Around 11.45 pm there was a report that shots had been fired at the Akerkhof, near the Vismarkt. Upon arrival, officers found no suspect and no victim. The police reported on Friday that no one was known to have been injured.
The police are investigating both incidents and are also investigating a possible connection between the two cases on the Grote Markt and the Akerkhof. No suspects have been arrested yet.
