Two injured in shooting in Groningen, boy (17) arrested

A 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man from Groningen were injured in a shooting in the Poelestraat in Groningen on Wednesday night around 2:55 AM, one of whom was seriously injured. The police arrested a suspect near the station on Thursday morning around 6:15 am, who ran away after the incident. It concerns a 17-year-old boy from Amsterdam.

The shooting took place near the Grote Markt in the center of the city. Shots were fired several times. One of the victims was taken to hospital with serious injuries. According to sources, the other victim was also transported to hospital after treatment on the street. There was a lot of party crowd on the streets.

Arrest

The area surrounding the shooting was cordoned off for investigation. Witnesses were spoken to and camera images were requested. This led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy from Amsterdam around 6:15 am near the station. He is in custody and is being interrogated. The police are investigating his role and possible involvement in the incident.

Police also say they suspect that the arrested suspect knows one of the victims, this is part of the investigation.
