Two firearms off the street

Rotterdam – Yesterday two firearms were seized in the tram by observant metro travelers and thorough RET employees. A 40-year-old man from The Hague and a 24-year-old man from Rotterdam were arrested.

Yesterday morning, several subway passengers reported seeing a firearm on a man on the subway. Around 10.45 am, the man with the firearm would have got off at Maashaven metro station. Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the subway station showed the man tossing the firearm into a trash can. Based on the description passed on, officers found the man and found the firearm in the trash. The firearm was seized and the 40-year-old man from The Hague was arrested.

Also yesterday afternoon, around 4:30 p.m., a man traveled on public transport with a firearm in his pocket. Decisive RET employees also removed this firearm from the street by the police. It started with a ticket that RET employees wrote out for a tram passenger. This man was then put off the tram at the Bredenoord. In response, the man showed a firearm to the RET employees. The RET employees called the police. When the fine was issued, RET employees had noted down the data of the 24-year-old from Rotterdam, so that officers could arrest the man in his home and the firearm was also found there. The firearm has been seized.
