Amsterdam – On Tuesday, March 14, the police made two arrests in an investigation into rogue contractors. The arrested men are suspected of fraud, identity fraud and money laundering. The program Scammed?! van AVROTROS previously paid attention to fraudulent practices involving renovation projects, as a result of which the number of declarations increased considerably.

The cases for which the suspects have been arrested all relate to renovation projects for homes. In all cases, the construction jobs accepted by the rogue contractors were not completed and work that was carried out was often poorly executed. By the time they discovered this, victims had already made large payments, after which the rogue contractors suddenly stopped showing up and could not be found.

Broadcast Scammed?!
Partly thanks to an item that the program Scammed?! of AVROTROS previously broadcast about these scams, more reports came in from people who had experienced the same thing. This ensured that various cases that initially had to be dealt with under civil law could now be bundled in a criminal investigation into a structural form of fraud.

The two men are 37 and 38 years old. They have since been sent back pending further investigation, but they remain suspects.
