Two arrests for attempted arson

Alkmaar – On Saturday night, February 3, the police arrested two men aged 18 and 66 from Amsterdam for attempted arson after a suspicious situation on the Lekstraat in Alkmaar. The Lekstraat is part of the safety risk area following a series of explosions in Alkmaar.

At around 1 a.m., the police encountered a suspicious situation in Lekstraat in which a person, after being dropped off by a motorist on Lekstraat, was suspiciously in the street where an explosion had previously occurred. When he saw officers, the man threw goods into the bushes. The man was stopped. After a short search in the bushes, an explosive device was found. The 18-year-old man has been arrested. The 66-year-old male driver was also arrested.

The mayor of Alkmaar recently designated four different areas as safety risk areas with (extra) camera surveillance. The police can also conduct preventive searches.
