Amsterdam – In the ongoing investigation into a burglary and leaving the scene of an accident on Kinkerstraat, the police made two arrests today, September 19, 2023. These men, aged 18 and 38 from Amsterdam, are suspected of involvement in these serious incidents. On July 20, 2023, an arrest of a 19-year-old Amsterdam resident was also made in these cases.
On the night of Wednesday 19 to Thursday 20 July 2023, a cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car on Kinkerstraat. The cyclist manages to survive the collision by being resuscitated. After an intensive time in the hospital, he continues his rehabilitation at home. The occupants of this car recently broke into a tobacco shop on the same street and fled in the vehicle. They do not stop after the collision. Not long afterwards, the vehicle crashed and was found without occupants on Pieter Langendijkstraat. Shortly afterwards a suspect can be arrested. This person is still in custody in connection with the burglary and collision.
Police arrested two other men on Tuesday morning. They are suspected of breaking into the tobacconist’s shop and leaving the scene of an accident.
The investigation continues unabated and does not rule out multiple arrests in this case.
Arrests
The arrested suspects came into the picture during the intensive criminal investigation into the circumstances of the burglary and the collision. Thanks to the efforts and expertise of the police experts, including Forensic Investigation and Traffic Accident Analysis, the suspects could be traced and arrested.
