Twelve Dutch haulers arrested in the port of Antwerp

Twelve Dutch collectors were arrested last weekend at a container terminal in the port of Antwerp. Six of them had holed up in a container and behaved aggressively, so the police decided to leave them overnight and not arrest them until the next morning. That writes the Gazet van Antwerp.

Empty container

In the night of 26 to 27 May, the shipping police caught a group of thieves in the port of Antwerp. They had been brought into the site in a so-called ‘Trojan’ (empty) container. When the men were caught they behaved aggressively and one of the inspectors was punched. The police then used pepper spray, but they were unable to catch the men because they had hidden in the container.

Minor

It was then decided to lock the container by placing and guarding another container in front of it. On Saturday morning, an arrest team entered the container and arrested six evaders, including a minor.

Also on Monday afternoon, five collectors were arrested at a port terminal when they broke out of a container. And on Monday night another swindler was arrested on quay 1742. All twelve suspects have Dutch nationality. The minor was placed in a closed institution, the eleven adults were arrested by the investigating judge on suspicion of drug trafficking, membership of a criminal organization and unlawful entry into a port facility. They will remain stuck for at least a month.

Two large batches of coke

On Monday, 772 kilos of cocaine was intercepted in a container with coffee at the MPET terminal. On Tuesday, 2,757 kilos of cocaine was found in a batch of tuna. The Federal Judicial Police of Antwerp is investigating whether there is a link between the thieves and the seized cocaine.
