Let’s take a look into the world of BYD (Build Your Dreams). Their main goal? Offering zero-emission energy solutions to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. One of BYD’s notable branches is BYD Auto, with a specific focus on electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. One of those vehicles is the BYD ATTO 3, which we were able to test ourselves during our trip to Berlin. But in this article we focus on another specific product from BYD: the new BYD SEAL.

A little about BYD

BYD is a global high-tech company that started as a manufacturer of rechargeable batteries since 1995. Now they are active in various sectors, including cars, trains, clean energy and electronics. Their focus is on providing zero-emission energy solutions to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In 2003, BYD Auto was established as BYD’s automotive division. Their mission is to accelerate the transition to greener forms of international transport by working on fully electric and hybrid vehicle technologies.

Design and battery technology

The new BYD SEAL, a five-seater electric car, owes its appearance to BYD’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design concept. This design, together with aerodynamics, ensures that the car has a range of somewhere between 520 and 570 kilometers. What makes the BYD SEAL special is the “Blade Battery” used. This is a type of lithium iron phosphate battery that does not contain cobalt and nickel. What stands out is the high power density, which means that it can store a lot of energy in a compact form. In the BYD SEAL, the battery has a capacity of 82.5 kWh and comes with a heat pump to improve efficiency.

A little more about charging the electric car. Thanks to the 150 kW AC fast charging capability, charging from 30-80% takes only 26 minutes. In addition, the car is suitable for 11 kW DC 3-phase charging at public charging points, providing flexibility in charging. This means you can get back on the road quickly, without long waiting times.

A look at the interior

The interior of the BYD SEAL is fully adapted to modern technology. It has a digital instrument panel and a large 15.6-inch central touchscreen that you can rotate. In addition, the car comes with a 4G data connection, including WiFi and hotspot function, which includes 1 GB per month for two years.

It is also useful for your smartphone: you can charge your phone wirelessly with two wireless charging stations and you can connect it to the car via Apple Carplay and Android Auto. And if you love music, you’ll be happy to know that there are no less than 12 speakers in this BYD, making for a great audio experience.

The market launch of the BYD SEAL is scheduled for this fall.
Consumer prices are:

• BYD SEAL Design RWD € 47,990 (addition from € 263/month)
• BYD SEAL Excellence AWD € 50,990 (addition from € 283/month)
