Time travel on Instagram: posting in the past will soon be possible

Instagram lets you travel time

Do you prefer not to post on holiday due to the risk of burglary, but would you like it in terms of diary if the posts were posted on the day you were actually there? Apparently you’ll be able to post back to Instagram soon. This means you can give an Instagram post an older date before publishing it.

Past posts on Instagram

Currently, it is not possible to schedule messages in the future with a regular account, but you can with a business account. Now, however, Instagram is going in the other direction, because everyone will probably soon be able to post messages in the past. That photo of your child with a lantern can be taken on November 11, when it is Sint Maarten, instead of on November 12 because you only got around to posting it then.

It’s a feature that hasn’t been officially announced by Instagram yet, but it was spotted in the app’s code. It is not clear whether there are any further consequences for reposting content. And above all: whether it is visible that something was not posted on the date stated. It seems a logical step to indicate this, just as is the case with edited messages on WhatsApp, for example. However, there is something to be said for both camps: on the one hand, as an influencer it would be nice to be able to put something back, especially when you have a collaboration in progress and you don’t want to let your customer notice that you had actually forgotten it. But for such a customer it is nice to see that a post was not posted at that time and that there is therefore some tampering.

Post to the past

The expectation is that there will be a label or some other way that indicates: this post was not posted at the time stated. It is not a big improvement for everyone in this respect, but especially if you want to arrange your timeline and your profile wall in a certain way, then this is of course ideal and you do not disturb people with a whole battery of photos that you have to take one after the other. post at that time. It will undoubtedly result in much nicer profiles, but also in possible friction between people who believe that someone else did not keep their agreement (and are not wrong about that).

It has only been spotted in the code of the app, so it remains to be seen if and when this will come to Instagram. In any case, it is called Post to the Past and is recognizable by a calendar icon. Backdating would be very useful and we certainly welcome this.
