Three scammers arrested thanks to smart action by victim

Ridderkerk – On Thursday, March 28, a 34-year-old helpful man from Ridderkerk became a victim of scammers. He thought he was helping a car that had broken down, but was cheated out of a lot of money under false promises. He managed to lure the perpetrators back with an excuse and called the police. As a result, he was able to arrest three suspects on Tuesday for fraud and receiving stolen items.

That Thursday, the victim saw a car with a foreign license plate on the side of the highway. A man stood next to it waving. He stopped to offer help. The occupants indicated that they had been robbed and that they could not continue. They wanted to borrow money, and gave him jewelry and a telephone as deposit. They would pick it up again on Sunday and reward him generously.

However, the victim soon discovered that the jewelry was fake. He contacted the perpetrator and lied that the jewelry had been stolen from him. The perpetrators then demanded more money from him, and he agreed that he would pay it on Tuesday. But instead he alerted the police. At his direction, they were able to arrest the suspect in the fraud, a 41-year-old Romanian. Officers found more fake gold and stolen phones in the car. The two other passengers, a 20-year-old Romanian woman and a 42-year-old Romanian woman, were arrested for fencing.
