Three Dutch people arrested in Belgium for three tons of coke in tuna


The Federal Judicial Police of East Flanders intercepted a truck with a container in a company in Lebbeke on Monday at the request of the Dutch police. Eight suspects were arrested during the action: three Dutch, four Belgians and a Turk. Dutch police had discovered almost three tons of cocaine in the container, hidden in a deck load of frozen tuna. The Belgian Public Prosecution Service reported this on Thursday.

The Federal Judicial Police East Flanders received a request from the Dutch police on Monday to provide assistance in the interception of a truck with a container that was driving from the Netherlands towards East Flanders. The Dutch police had discovered almost three tons of cocaine in the container in the Netherlands. The special units of the federal police were deployed and were able to intercept the truck, which had entered a warehouse in Lebbeke.

Eight suspects were also arrested during the raid on the warehouse: three Dutch, four Belgians and a Turk. The container with a deck load of approximately 20 tons of frozen tuna was transferred by the Civil Protection for destruction.

Arraigned

The eight suspects were brought before the investigating judge in Dendermonde on Tuesday. Six were placed under arrest, two were released on conditions.

The investigation in collaboration with the Dutch police continues, according to the Belgian Public Prosecution Service.
