Three arrested in port area

Nieuwdorp – On Monday, January 22, 2024, around 11 a.m., the police, in collaboration with Customs, arrested three men at a port site in Nieuwdorp who were there in a suspicious manner. These are probably so-called ‘extractors’ who were looking for drugs. The suspects are a 39-year-old Colombian, a 29-year-old Rotterdam resident and a 36-year-old man from Terneuzen. Five similar arrests were also made in Ritthem on Sunday morning

Because the men could not explain what they were doing on the port grounds, they were arrested. They are suspected of committing preparatory acts. The arrested suspects are still in custody. The Seaport Police is investigating the case.

What are lungers?
Extractors are people who try to gain access to container terminal sites in various ways. They often do this on behalf of a (criminal) organization. They have to remove narcotics, often cocaine, from sea containers shipped to the Netherlands and take them outside the terminal area. In the past, ejectors only received a fine. And sometimes they were back in the harbor the next day. To discourage recurring swipers, there has been a swipers law since January 1, 2022. With this law, people who are suspected of being perpetrators run the risk of a prison sentence. Even if they didn’t have drugs on them when they were arrested. Customs, the police and other network partners work closely together to tackle thieves.
