Ten Hag receives praise from his own selection: 'We wondered if he would really do it'

Bruno Fernandes opens up about the relationship between the Manchester United selection and Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese midfielder is full of praise for the Dutch manager, although there were a few question marks about his performance in the beginning.

“When he arrived, we went to training camp almost immediately. He demands a lot from us. You hook up or you’re gone,” Fernandes begins at BT Sports in conversation with club icon Rio Ferdinand. “In the beginning we wondered if he also dared to tackle the important players? Would he really put you next to it? He has often done it.”

“With Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford…”, Fernandes sums up. Against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Rashford was late, leaving him out of the starting eleven. “Everyone was like, wow,” the playmaker recalled. “At first we thought: Rashford is our most important man, how can he do that? Later I sat with David (de Gea, ed.) And I said to him: the manager had to, otherwise younger players think they can do this too .”

Fernandes is full of praise for Ten Hag’s approach. “He requires Marcus to be consistent, so also outside the lines.” United won 0-1 at Wolves through a goal from Rashford. “He and the manager walked off the field laughing.”
