On Tuesday, the detectives arrested two young suspects on suspicion of involvement in two explosions in Amsterdam. A now 16-year-old boy has come forward in the investigation into an explosion at a hairdresser’s shop on the Hoofdweg in Amsterdam-West on May 16, 2022. The other suspect is 19 years old. The detective suspects him of an explosion at a catering business on Pieter Calandlaan in Amsterdam-Osdorp on June 23, 2022.

Heavy fireworks

DNA found at the crime scene led the detective to the trail of the two suspects. The boys are both from Amsterdam. Searches were also carried out in a house and associated box in Amsterdam. Detectives found heavy fireworks and a gas alarm pistol. The fireworks were dangerous and had to be disposed of by a specialized company.

The suspects were interviewed by the detectives and then sent back. They remain suspects in the investigations.

Increase

In 2022 there will be an increase in the number of explosions and explosive attacks on homes and businesses compared to previous years, according to the police.

This increase led the police to have two teams investigate this. One team investigates explosions, the other investigates explosions at homes and businesses. Efforts by the latter team have now led to these – and also previous – arrests.
