Suspicious situation leads to cocaine catch

Vlissingen – A large amount of cocaine was found and seized in the port of Vlissingen on Sunday afternoon, April 16, 2023. A suspicious situation eventually led to a container in which the cocaine was hidden.

Ritthem – A surveillance unit of Customs noticed a suspicious situation in Europaweg Noord on Sunday morning, April 16, 2023 around half past four. While the driver of a vehicle was checked, the co-driver quickly took off. Burglary tools were found in the vehicle. The surveillance unit called for assistance and together with units of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and the police, a search was made. The co-driver was found not much later. The men, aged 26 and 36, were both arrested. The men do not have a permanent home or place of residence in the Netherlands. The 36-year-old man also turned out to have a prison sentence of more than 200 days.

Joint research
Nieuwdorp – Customs and the police jointly launched a further investigation. It soon became apparent that the men were probably planning to extract cocaine. On a harbor site on Finlandweg, the container was found on Sunday afternoon, which the men were probably aiming for. Tens of kilos of cocaine were found to be hidden in the container. The Customs Special Assistance Team is conducting further investigations into the narcotics. The men have been detained and are being questioned by the police.
