The police have arrested the 49-year-old man suspected of shooting in a shopping center in Zwijndrecht in January. A 66-year-old woman was killed and her 38-year-old daughter was seriously injured. The man had been a fugitive for five weeks.
He was arrested around 12:30 this afternoon by the Special Interventions Service (DSI). That happened on the Kethelbrug near the center of Schiedam, according to the police after a tip from “an observant citizen”. The man was alone in a car at the time, the vehicle was seized by the police.
Since January 21, the police have been looking for Minh Nghia V., who fled by car after the shooting. Information about the incident and the fugitive suspect was requested, among other things, in the program Opsporing Requested. A reward of 30,000 euros was also offered for the golden tip that would lead to his location.
A day after the fatal shooting, the full name and a photo of the suspect were circulated by the police. V., who comes from Vietnam, lived in Rotterdam and has a long criminal record. Among other things, he was convicted of a violent robbery of a money runner in a shopping center in Zoetermeer.
The 38-year-old victim of the shooting was his ex-partner. Relatives are relieved, they say in a press statement. We couldn’t have had a better announcement this weekend. “For now we leave the spokesperson about details of the arrest to the police and OM, but it goes without saying that we were deeply moved when we received the message.”
The police have not announced whether the reward of 30,000 euros will be awarded.
At the beginning of this week, the police reported that V. probably received help from a large network in recent weeks and could therefore remain under the radar of the police. V. is suspected of murder and attempted murder.
