Stunt in Youth League: AZ slaughters Barcelona after a miracle goal and reaches the quarterfinals

AZ Under 18 caused a stunt in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday. While Ajax’s peers had to leave the battlefield due to a loss against Sporting CP, AZ took a deserved 0-3 victory over FC Barcelona.

In the first half, the chances went up and down between the two teams, but no goals were scored in Estadi Johan Cruyff. After rest, however, this was different. The Alkmaarders immediately got off to a good start after the break and that paid off in minute 55. Midfielder Kees Smit got the ball around the center line and did not hesitate for a moment. The youngster lashed out mercilessly and worked the ball from miles behind the Spanish goalkeeper. A world goal to put the Alkmaarders ahead.

After the goal, a frivolous AZ started to play even better football. This eventually resulted in the second goal. Mexx Meerdink was allowed to give the last push after a good action by Jayden Addai and made it 2-0 seven minutes later. In the final phase, Barcelona player Román Vega received a separate red card after he received his second yellow due to a schwalbe. AZ also got the icing on the cake in the ninetieth minute. Meerdink was allowed to moor for his second goal and thus set the final score at 0-3.

The victory pushes AZ Under 18 through to the quarter finals of the UEFA Youth League.
