Vlissingen – This week, after a tip-off, the Zeeland-West-Brabant Seaport Police, in collaboration with Customs, found three cars stolen in the Netherlands in a container on a ship moored in the port of Vlissingen East. The ship’s destination was Africa.
The Zeeland-West-Brabant Seaport Police received a report on Thursday, September 7, that a stolen car was allegedly on a seagoing vessel. Following this information, an investigation was immediately initiated in close cooperation with Customs. The ship in question was moored in the port of Vlissingen-Oost at the time.
A suspicious container was soon found on board by the local police officers of the Seaport Police and customs officers. After the container had been disembarked, not one, but three stolen passenger cars were found among sofas and mattresses. Two other containers were also checked additionally on Friday. It turned out that there were no stolen goods in it.
Detectives from the Seaport Police have launched a further investigation. This showed that the passenger cars were stolen in the Netherlands and had to be shipped to Africa via Antwerp. Because the ship made a stopover in Vlissingen-Oost, the vehicles could be seized there. The company where the ship was moored, the ship and its crew have nothing to do with the theft or stolen cars.
