The acting GP who was stabbed yesterday in a GP practice in The Hague is still in intensive care, Omroep West reports. A 38-year-old man from the same city is in custody as a suspect.
“We are extremely shocked by this violent incident,” says a spokesperson for Hadoks, an organization of general practitioners in the Haaglanden region. “It has a lot of impact, initially on the victim and his family, but also on the employees of the practice.”
Yesterday morning around 10.30 am, the employee was stabbed at the practice on the Apeldoornselaan, near the Zuiderpark.
The practice then closed. “There is dismay and we try to support each other as best as possible in the team. Our thoughts now mainly go out to our colleague,” the practice writes on its website.
Help from bystanders
The suspect was arrested with the help of bystanders. The examining magistrate will decide on Friday whether his pre-trial detention will be extended. It is still unclear what led to the stabbing incident.
