Spotify comes with a personalized AI playlist that you create yourself

You know how many AI chatbots work: you write an assignment, a prompt, submit it and then wait for the AI chatbot to do something with it. Spotify now also wants you to use this to create playlists. Of course, no music will be released by artificial intelligence, because the streaming service wants to get rid of that.

Spotify AI playlist

Spotify previously came with an AI DJ option, but it is now a bit more fun. You can write yourself a prompt later to get a playlist done. A brand new playlist with music you probably know, or can discover new. You can get creative, for example: “a playlist with songs about rabbits” or “songs with which I can give my partner a hint that he should do more around the house”. Whatever you think of it, Spotify will soon be able to create a playlist for it. It itself comes with “songs to serenade my cat” and “beats to fight a zombie apocalypse”. In short: things can go in pretty crazy directions.

The prompt can be about locations, movie characters, colors, emoji, activities, and animals, with the AI then rummaging through genres, moods, artists, and decades for songs to match. We are itching to get started with it, because we are curious to what extent Spotify goes very literally, or whether it becomes more subtle. However, it would take your taste into account: so you can count on playlists that fall into genres that you often or enjoy listening to. The advantage is that you can also adjust, so if Spotify comes up with a playlist that is much too cheerful, you simply say: “Can it be something more melancholic?” or if you think there is too much indie music in it, you ask for “more pop”. Of course you can also remove songs from the playlist.

AI playlist

Only in beta abroad

The AI playlist maker is now in beta in Australia and the UK, but should eventually come to other users on both iOS and Android. People can find it there in their library by tapping the plus sign at the bottom of the screen, but that is not possible for us for the AI playlist maker. Obviously it is not allowed or possible to create playlists that could hurt others in the sense of a violent prompt or political prompt.
