Ridouan Taghi’s eldest son has indeed been arrested in Dubai. This morning, the Public Prosecution Service did not want to confirm reports in De Telegraaf and Het Parool, but the Public Prosecution Service now reports that 22-year-old Faissal Taghi has been arrested at the request of the Netherlands.
The Public Prosecution Service writes that the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates have had treaties for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition since August 1. It was previously suspected that the arrest was the result of these new treaties. It is not yet clear whether he was arrested after it came into effect.
Faissal Taghi is suspected in the Netherlands of participating in a criminal organization that is guilty of international drug trafficking, money laundering and preparing violent crimes, the Public Prosecution Service reports. The National Public Prosecutor’s Office says it has full confidence in the further course of the extradition procedure.

Faissal Taghi’s name was mentioned in several cases against his father. The Public Prosecution Service thought it could conclude from intercepted messages that he observed a number of matters for Ridouan Taghi. Following this suspicion, Ridouan Taghi’s communications from the Extra Secure Institution in Vught were investigated. This showed that his assignments indeed ended up with Faissal, among others.
Ridouan Taghi was also arrested in Dubai. Immediately after his arrest in 2019, he was deported to the Netherlands, where he remains in custody on suspicion of involvement in liquidations and cocaine trafficking. He is the main suspect in the extensive Marengo liquidation process. He has been sentenced to life in prison.
