Tilburg – During a traffic control by the police, a 35-year-old man from Tilburg was arrested. The man was probably driving under the influence of drugs. During the check, a total of sixteen drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Two driver’s licenses were confiscated and a number of fines issued. This happened on the night of Friday March 10 to Saturday March 11.

In total, eleven drivers were found to have drunk too much alcohol and five were behind the wheel with drugs. Two driver’s licenses were taken immediately. Also, someone did not have his low beam in order and two did not want to show their driver’s license, and there were a number of other offenses for which a total of fourteen fines were issued.

Drivers under the influence

The traffic control took place at Het Laarveld West. About forty officers were involved and about a thousand vehicles were checked. The police are increasingly receiving signals that around the football match of Willem II, but also outside, people would get into the car under the influence. During an earlier check at Het Laar-West and the Paleisring, eighteen drivers with drink or drugs were also arrested last January 6. This made it seem necessary to do this again.

It has been decided not to arrest the majority of the drivers under the influence on the spot, but to draw up an official report. This enabled the pace to be maintained during the large-scale inspection. The public prosecutor will determine the next steps.
