There was a stabbing in a limestone quarry near Maastricht last evening after an argument. Six people were injured. They were treated in hospital for their injuries and were then allowed to go home, including two victims who initially appeared to be seriously injured.

The police have arrested three suspects. They are suspected of public violence or attempted manslaughter.

The police still have no idea why the group was in the nature reserve at the ENCI quarry and whether they know each other. “It has turned out that a quarrel has arisen between two groups, about 25 people in total. We do not yet know how large the groups were in themselves,” a police spokesperson said in a response.

The call came in just before 7 p.m. After the argument, a group of fifteen to twenty people was detained on the quarry site to clarify what happened. Cars were also searched. With the exception of the suspects, the group was allowed to go home later in the evening.

Police are urging anyone who has seen anything to come forward. There are no cameras anywhere in the remote area and finding witnesses is no easy task. The area is popular with walkers.

All six victims have been taken to hospital. Their identities have not been disclosed.
