During several checks this week in the port of Rotterdam, Customs intercepted a total of 220 kilos of cocaine. These are shipments of 39, 46, 33, 50 and 52 kilos with a street value of approximately 16.5 million euros, the Public Prosecution Service reports.

Ecuador

All packages were hidden in five containers loaded with bananas from Ecuador. The fruit was destined for a company in Italy, but this company seems to have nothing to do with the smuggling, according to the OM. The drugs have since been destroyed.

Blueberries

In addition to the finds between the bananas, a batch of 60 kilos of coke was also found near the engine of a refrigerated container filled with blueberries from Peru. The berries were destined for a company in South Holland, but this company also seems to have nothing to do with the smuggling. The street value of this batch of cocaine is 4.5 million euros.

The HARC team, a collaboration between the FIOD, Seaport Police, Customs and the Public Prosecution Service, is investigating the case.

Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information can be provided, according to the OM.
