Nieuwdorp – Police officers from the Zeeland-West-Brabant Seaport Police checked on Tuesday morning, May 7, 2024, for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Of the 71 drivers checked, one turned out to be behind the wheel under the influence of drugs.

The police officers kept their control on the Luxemburgweg. In total, they took a saliva test from 71 road users. One motorist, a 46-year-old man from Vlissingen, appeared to have driven a car under the influence of drugs. A blood sample was taken from this man, which will be examined to determine exactly what he used.
Fortunately, no driver tested appeared to have had too much to drink.

Drugs in your body for several days

Because the Seaport Police receives signals about driving under the influence of drugs within the port area, they are actively monitored. During such checks this year, 14 drivers have already been caught driving under the influence in the seaports in the Zeeland-West Brabant unit, after they tested positive for drug use.
Different types of drugs can remain in the body for a long time or even several days. As long as this is the case, it is prohibited to drive a vehicle. The police will continue to actively carry out checks in the near future.
