“Schumacher situation at Haas would have been very different if Michael had been there”

Ralf Schumacher thinks that the situation with his nephew Mick Schumacher at Haas would have been very different if Michael Schumacher had also been there. The German believes his brother’s presence had caused Haas team boss Guenther Steiner to behave differently and to position himself against Schumacher junior.

Schumacher’s story at Haas is well known by now. The young German did not deliver the performance that the American team was counting on and therefore had to leave the team after two seasons. As a result, he unfortunately did not have a seat, but he was admitted to Mercedes. Ralf Schumacher has often criticized the way things went at Haas, but will come back to it again. He thinks that things would have turned out very differently if his brother had influence on the situation.

“If my brother had been there, Steiner would have behaved differently,” Schumacher said in an interview with Express. “You don’t treat a young person like that. Everyone has to resist the pressure of Formula 1. But that was just too much,” concludes the German. “If you treat my family like that, then as Ralf Schumacher I don’t think it’s right,” Schumacher said. He thinks the seven-time world champion could then have been a mainstay for the 23-year-old.

“He has to absorb everything Mercedes can offer him”

In any case, Schumacher is satisfied with the role his nephew plays at Mercedes. In Bahrain, the youngster was already seen in the garage of the German racing stable, and he was there again in Jeddah. “Mick has to absorb everything Mercedes can offer him,” says Schumacher. “Unfortunately he doesn’t have the option to take the car on the track, but he can work in the simulator. He was able to test things there so that the car gets better. He needs a lot of patience and a bit of luck to get back into the cockpit,” concludes the brother of the seven-time world champion.
