‘Scar’ for Taylor: ‘I’d lock the phone for a few days’

Jan van Halst and Foppe de Haan state that Kenneth Taylor has suffered a blow from the past international period. The Ajax midfielder did not make a good turn against France (4-0) and was substituted after 33 minutes.

In the ensuing international match against Gibraltar (3-0), Taylor was not given any playing time by national coach Ronald Koeman. “That boy is now returning to his club with a scar,” Van Halst told Algemeen Dagblad. “At Ajax, that concern will really have to be present in the coming weeks to let that boy recover from this as quickly as possible. Yes. It remains top sport.”

“That international match is a blow,” De Haan adds. The former trainer calls it a “psychological process where peers can help” for Taylor. “The most important thing in that is that you don’t let Taylor swim. That’s the job of the whole club,” he says. “It’s about safety and appreciation. Taylor doesn’t feel that for a while. Then you can and dare a little less. It’s also a completely different world now, isn’t it. Willem van Hanegem used to not care about anything. Now, due to social media too, so much on you. So if I were Taylor, I’d lock the phone for a few days too.”
