'Rotterdam: suspects arrested for Antwerp attack'

In South Rotterdam, the police arrested three men because they were alleged to have been involved in an attack in Antwerp in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. According to the Gazet van Antwerpen, it concerns an attack on a building on Zeevaartstraat, on the Eilandje, close to the center of Antwerp. An explosion was reported at an empty building around 5 am on Wednesday morning.

The explosion was near the historic building of Leon Van Parys, where a fruit fair used to be located. Ten companies are established at that address that are active in the import of tropical fruit from South America.

A forensic investigation was launched on the spot.

The Antwerp police soon had a trail of suspected perpetrators. The Dutch police were called in from Antwerp. When the suspects arrived in South Rotterdam, they were intercepted by an arrest team from the Rotterdam-Rijnmond police.

It concerns three suspects: a man aged 19 from Zoetermeer, and two men aged 21 and 22 from The Hague. The three suspects will be handed over to the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.

Several Dutch people have been arrested in Antwerp in the last month who would have wanted to carry out attacks. In Antwerp there is a conflict between different groups in the drug environment.
