Rotterdam resident (40) arrested for stabbing man to death at Antwerp café


The council chamber in Antwerp confirmed on Friday the arrest of a 40-year-old man from Rotterdam on suspicion of stabbing a 34-year-old Angolan man to death in Antwerp on January 6. This is reported by the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.

Glass

On the night of Friday 5 to Saturday 6 January, an argument broke out in café Mambo Latin Club on Van Stralenstraat in Antwerp. The argument escalated and continued outside the business. A 34-year-old man was then stabbed in the neck by another man. That would have happened with a piece of glass. Emergency services resuscitated the victim and transported him to hospital, where he died a short time later from his injuries.

The victim is the Angolan Manilso “Mani” Muzungu who had lived in Overpelt with his family for several years. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Manslaughter

The police in Antwerp quickly arrived on the scene and arrested a suspect, a 40-year-old man from Rotterdam. He has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. The arrest was confirmed by the council chamber on Friday.

The local police department of the Antwerp police zone is conducting further investigation. Nothing is yet known about the reason for the argument in the café.
